When I was a kid, computers were a mystery. They were complicated and beautifully simple at the same time.  My first memory of computer class was LOGO. There was a turtle on the screen (a triangle) and you told it how to move with math REPEAT 4 [FD 20 RT 90]. It was beautiful. Video games scrolled left and right, with simple controls. The beauty and complexity was in the story, and not in the visual representation or game play. You gave wizards text commands, and got to unravel complex stories with multiple endings, but the input was always accessible. Type some text, push these buttons. Limiting the scope of possibilities gave them their power. See what you can build and create with constraints. That was always something that fascinated me.

Pretty much sums me up in one image.

There is something i really love about simple single houses alone in a landscape. When I was in New Mexico I kept finding myself stopping and looking up in the hills at the houses that stand alone, there was also this artist at a local gallery (can’t recall her name) that painted houses in the same style.. anyway seeing these minimalist landscapes brought me right back to new mexico funny how memories work.

Here is a compilation of some of my favorites:

• The Man Your Man Could Smell Like – This is the first one that got my attention, its been all over the place recently, but its still a great commercial, with even better production. All of that was done in one take.
• The Most Interesting Man in the World – These have been on TV for a bit, this most recent one has some great lines.  The casting is great, and I love the way they use old video footage.
• The Most Ridiculous Man in the World – vitamin water takes a few jabs at Dos Equis with this one. Steve Nash really sells it, great parody.
• Old Spice – Blocker – This is the most recent of the Old Spice craziness, this time Tim and Eric are at the helm, and you can tell, the absurd and awkward level have been kicked up a whole lot.
• Old Spice Throwback – This last one is from a while ago, but Neil Patrick Harris really sells it, cause he used to be a doctor, for pretend.

Christoph Niemann’s Abstract City Blog for the times has been really enjoyable.  This time he uses google maps to style his illustrations.
